Why is there a 200mm elbow in the pipeline before it enters the MTO caustic scrubber tower?
The additional elbow is used to prevent backflow of the alkaline solution
Similar to the drainage pipes and water supply pipes used in daily life, spiral or U-shaped bends are required to prevent backflow. In the methanol-to-olefins process, the break line before the inlet to the alkali scrubber is also installed to prevent backflow.
