Hello everyone: I am working on a project involving the transportation of butadiene, and the transport pipelines are made of carbon steel. The client requires that these pipes be acid-washed and passivated. I’m not quite sure whether carbon steel pipes really need to be acid-washed and passivated; if so, how should this process be carried out? I would be extremely grateful if the master who is aware of this could give some guidance!

For higher quality results, alkali cleaning is performed first, and after passivation, the pipes are drained and cleaned thoroughly

The meaning and purpose of cleaning: The pipes and equipment used in this project inevitably accumulate dirt such as rust, oil, sediment, and various oxides during manufacturing, transportation, storage, and installation. If this dirt is not removed, it can cause side reactions during production and affect the quality of the products. Therefore, before starting up the equipment, the system and pipelines must be thoroughly cleaned chemically to remove various impurities, ensuring that the inner surfaces of the equipment and pipes achieve the required level of cleanliness, thus creating favorable conditions for producing high-quality products as soon as possible. The system and pipes need to be cleaned before driving.
Carbon steel is pickled; carbon steel is sensitive to acids. To protect carbon steel, an anti-corrosion coating is applied, while only stainless steel pipes are pickled and passivated.

Can polymeric-grade butadiene be transported over long distances? If long-distance transportation is possible, are there any special conditions or requirements?
