Why is a high slurry temperature trip interlock installed in water-coal slurry gasification? What are the main reasons that trigger this interlock?
The main purpose is to prevent problems in the slurry pipeline, such as syngas flowing back into it. In such situations, it’s likely that no direct interlock will trigger a shutdown; indirect interlocks may be slow to activate or may not activate at all, which is why this interlock has been installed. Currently, many new projects do not have check valves on the coal slurry burners, and there is particular attention paid to this potential hazard, as a serious accident occurred in one factory due to it. So, it was decided to start with interlocking systems to make improvements; some plants use coal slurry and furnace pressure differentials as triggers for tripping the system.
When the pressure in the slurry pipeline is low, the raw gas will flow back into the slurry pipeline. Will both the raw gas and oxygen flow back into the slurry pipeline? In that case, the oxygen pipeline should also be equipped with a high-temperature trip interlock, logically speaking.
