I would like to ask the experts: For winter heating boilers that use methanol as fuel, the condensate water resulting from the evaporation of methanol is highly acidic, with a pH value close to 1. The methanol used by the unit is recycled methanol from local township enterprises, which in turn obtain their waste methanol from nearby manufacturing units. Some of this methanol is highly acidic, while others are nearly neutral. Whether acidic or neutral, it appears light yellow in color; it can be transparent or semi-transparent. The condensed water obtained after distillation is highly acidic. Sniffing the recycled methanol fuel with the nose reveals no noticeable odor of salts, acids, or hydrogen sulfide, nor acetic acid; instead, there is a bitter taste similar to that of gasoline (benzene?) ). How should this problem be solved? The leader requires that the condensate be neutral; it’s not clear yet whether to add caustic soda to neutralize it or what method to use.
