Dear friends: Hello everyone! Why does the bottom pump of the vacuum distillation tower (at -95 KPa) suddenly stop delivering fluid during operation, while its flow rate returns to normal once air is expelled? (Pump Q: 17.5 M3/H ; H: 25M) What is the reason? How to solve it?
It’s the pump that is experiencing cavitation. The tower is installed too low, causing negative pressure at the pump inlet and allowing air to leak in. The solution is to check whether the pump inlet filter is clogged; replace it with a coarser filter mesh to reduce the pressure drop at the pump inlet ; Keep the liquid level in the tower as high as possible.

Is an anti-rotation plate installed at the bottom outlet of the tower, and is there an anti-rotation baffle at the pump inlet? Is the inlet filter clogged, and is the pressure drop in the inlet pipe too high (too many pipe accessories: nozzles, various valves, instruments)? . . . . . )? Is the export flow exceeding the set value?
It’s normal; we often encounter this situation. Make sure to check the airtightness at the inlet, the liquid level, inlet cavitation (due to high material temperature), or any accumulation of non-condensable gases. It is recommended to install a balance tube in front of the pump outlet valve, so that air can be discharged online when the pump is stopped
