Potassium and sodium, as highly reactive metals, help to lower the ash melting point of coal; however, due to their high reactivity, they readily displace the oxides in refractory bricks, leading to erosion of those bricks and a reduced lifespan.
Potassium oxide and sodium oxide in ash can catalyze the gasification reaction. The carbon conversion rate was increased by 0.5 percentage points without raising the reaction temperature. The catalytic effect of potassium oxide in ash is significantly higher than that of sodium oxide.
