As the title suggests, I’m wondering whether it’s necessary to use an inoculum when testing the BOD5 of anaerobic effluent. I tried it once by adding domestic sewage to the diluent; as a result, the addition of manganese sulfate and potassium iodide resulted in a white precipitate, with no dissolved oxygen present. I’m not sure whether the dilution ratio was incorrect or the inoculum was not suitable
Vaccination is required because there are no obligate aerobic bacteria in the water.
