On December 2, an acceptance meeting for the contract energy management project on the utilization of low-temperature waste heat from the aromatic compounds unit at Maoming Petrochemical’s chemical division was held at Maoming Petrochemical. The meeting concluded that, after its commissioning, the project has operated stably, with all parameters meeting the design specifications, and it delivers good economic and social benefits. In response to the shortage of low-pressure steam across the chemical plant, which necessitates supplementation through medium-pressure steam after temperature and pressure reduction, Maoming Petrochemical adopted an energy service contract model to carry out energy-saving upgrades. It integrated the energy from the aromatic extraction unit and the MTBE unit for combined utilization, and implemented a heat-self-balancing low-temperature heating system to recover heat from the aromatics for use in the MTBE unit. As a result, the two reboilers in Unit 1 of the MTBE plant no longer require steam supply, being heated entirely by thermal water. This project was approved in 2014, construction began in March 2015; it was completed by CCCC on September 28, and officially put into use on October 10. Since the project was put into operation almost two months ago, it has been functioning well. The low-pressure steam consumption of the MTBE unit has decreased by 8.4 tons per hour, resulting in annual energy savings of 4,978 tons of standard coal and cost savings of 8.11 million yuan.
