I would like to ask: What materials should be used for the orifice plate and flanges in a orifice plate flow meter used with liquid nitrogen (operating temperature: -190°C, pressure: 0.5 MPa.g)? '
-For temperatures ranging from 101°C to -196°C, austenitic stainless steels such as 304 or 316 are generally used
I don’t think it’s very appropriate to use an orifice plate to measure the flow rate of liquid nitrogen. Due to the significant throttling effect of the orifice plate, a low-pressure zone is easily formed downstream of it. This leads to partial vaporization of liquid nitrogen, resulting in gas formation downstream and pressure fluctuations, which in turn cause significant disturbances in the measurement signal. It is recommended to use low-temperature vortex flowmeters; these flowmeters have a weak throttling effect, suffer from low pressure loss, and provide stable measurements.
