On December 4, 2015, the environmental protection inspection for the Shenhua Group’s direct coal liquefaction project (Phase I) was completed successfully. The project is located in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, and its construction includes a coal direct liquefaction production facility with an annual capacity of 1.08 million tons, as well as a synthetic oil production facility with an annual capacity of 180,000 tons. The 180,000 tons/year synthetic oil product plant has been in a shut-down state since completion of commissioning and is not included in the scope of this acceptance. The total investment in the project is 14.73 billion yuan, of which 2.26 billion yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures. Construction began in August 2004, and trial production was approved by the Inner Mongolia Environmental Protection Department in June 2009 (Document No. Neihuan [2009] 76). During the acceptance monitoring period, the plant’s production load reached over 75% of the designed load, and the environmental protection facilities installed as part of the facility were put into use simultaneously.
The total investment for the project is 14.73 billion yuan. It is not clear whether this amount includes the investment required for the 180,000-ton FTO facility; if it does not, then with an actual production capacity of 900,000 tons, the investment of 14.73 billion yuan means that an investment of 163 million yuan is needed per 100 million tons of production capacity – which is the same as the investment required for the coal-based indirect liquefaction FTO process.
I would like to know what the approximate annual production volume of naphtha from Shenhua’s coal-to-oil process is, and what it is mainly used for. Thank you!
Shenhua has a 100,000-ton catalytic reforming unit that converts naphtha into gasoline.
Is Shenhua currently building the following projects? ? ? The processing route still follows the coal liquefaction—hydrogenation stabilization—hydrogenation reforming process. In the second and third tiers, in addition to expanding the facilities from the previous stages of construction, catalyst preparation, coal preparation, light hydrocarbon recovery, desulfurization and other facilities, along with the accompanying utility systems, are installed along the processing route. Add a 600,000 tons/year reforming unit to produce aromatic compounds and generate hydrogen as a by-product ; A new 150,000 tons per year isomerization unit was added to produce isomerized oil, which is then blended with toluene, C9 aromatics, and raffinate oil produced by the reforming unit to manufacture 92# gasoline for shipment ; Set up propane dehydrogenation and polypropylene plants.
