Yesterday I went for an interview at a facility that deals with kitchen waste. I have a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of work experience; I’ve worked in a chemical wastewater treatment plant, where our projects involve biochemical treatment, advanced treatment processes, high-salt MVR treatment, as well as anaerobic and aerobic treatment methods to achieve zero emissions. I applied for the position of wastewater engineer, but it was the plant’s chief engineer who conducted the interview – other managers were not there. As soon as the chief engineer saw that my background was in industrial wastewater treatment, he ignored me, asked a few casual questions, and then said the interview was over. Finally, when I went to the HR department, they told me that if I wanted to work there I would have to work as an operator, as my qualifications weren’t sufficient. I visited their facility to see how their processing works. The treatment of biogas slurry is extremely simple; in the core anaerobic fermentation process, only two anaerobic tanks are in use during the acidification stage, while no tanks are operational during the gas production stage. The load is very low. Three years have passed since adjustments were made, yet no progress has been made. It’s a shame to waste 200 tons of kitchen waste per day, especially considering that it’s part of a BOT project. What bothers me the most is their chief engineer; he seems to look down on everyone. I just don’t understand why
I’m afraid that if you come and improve the company, the chief engineer will have no job left: lol
It’s been 3 years of debugging, and still nothing tangible has been achieved; it seems they just want to make a little extra money and aren’t interested in any real progress.
Well, I don’t think so; it’s not clear what level of chief engineer that person is. Compared to the chief engineers in manufacturing and industrial companies, their role is probably much less significant
I don’t understand – what’s so difficult about their biological anaerobic fermentation process? Is it more difficult to handle than chemicals?
The standards vary from industry to industry, right? Those who are able to secure **BOT projects possess exceptional public relations skills; the chief engineers also often have meals and meetings with key executives. A high level of vision is likely a result of the culture within such circles. There’s no need for you to go to such companies; they are looking for operators, and it’s a shame for your experience and skills.
These days, when looking for a job, I don’t even know which skills I should work on improving: knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, instrumentation and electrical systems, laboratory analysis, management skills, communication abilities, coordination skills, first aid knowledge, or horticulture. I find that those working in the chemical industry are all-rounders… yet at the same time, they’re all incompetent...

But I really can’t find any related jobs anymore; I’m thinking about starting to work right away, feeling confused. . . . .
