A friend’s factory uses plate filters to purify oil, and they’ve found that the pre-coating with diatomaceous earth isn’t very even, which affects the filtering efficiency. This post was last edited by FORREST_GUMP on 2015-12-23 08:00. It’s sufficient to have a filter cake layer of a certain thickness after pre-coating; it generally won’t be very uniform, as long as the thickness of this pre-coated layer is enough to trap impurities.
The problem is that not only is the thickness uneven, but in some areas the pre-coating doesn’t work at all; this is the key issue! I tried various methods and found that sometimes pre-coating can function as a filter cake, while at other times there are areas without pre-coating. I searched through various sources but found no relevant information, which is why I’m seeking advice from everyone~
It’s best to contact the engineering company that designed and built your oil refinery; they provide technical support after installation. In your case, it’s likely not a problem with the plate and frame filter. It is not very easy to establish a diatomite pre-coating layer on plate and frame filters; strict requirements are imposed on aspects such as the concentration of the pre-coating suspension, the pre-coating pressure, the holding time, and the uniformity of the filter fabric, and reliance can only be placed on experience
