I would appreciate it if someone could guide me on determining whether a 3-inch valve is suitable for use in a 4-inch pipeline, and what the criteria are for that decision What calculations can be used to determine whether it is suitable?
Three inches can’t fit three inches; the size difference is too large

It should be determined by the designer by calculating whether the flow rate and pressure drop (resistance) are reasonable.
It really depends on the requirements regarding flow rate. If there are no strict demands on flow rate or pressure, using a reducer, commonly known as an elbow, will suffice!
It can be used, but the inlet and outlet of the valve need to have diameter changes. However, it’s generally not necessary to do this, as it will have a slight impact on traffic. It also affects the overall aesthetics of the pipeline.
