Wastewater treatment plant, mainly handling domestic wastewater; A/O process. The average CODcr level at the inlet is around 400, while the ammonia nitrogen level is about 25. The sludge concentration in the anaerobic reactor is around 3400, and the average level at the outlet is around 30, with the ammonia nitrogen level below 1. Recently, a large amount of white foam appeared suddenly in the biological reaction tank; the MLSS level was around 2800. The COD and ammonia nitrogen levels in the effluent increased rapidly, and the effluent became turbid. The COD of the incoming water is normal, and the pH is also acceptable. I would like to know why this situation occurs. How should it be handled?
It is caused by an excessive amount of surfactants in the water; spraying water or some flour can be used to address this issue.
Has the concentration of certain organic substances in the incoming water suddenly increased?
Check the water temperature in the anaerobic tank; it should be maintained between 20 and 35 degrees. To ensure a stable output from the anaerobic process, if there is no change in the color of the water, simply increase the aeration level in the aerobic tank to raise the dissolved oxygen levels, and the output conditions will return to normal. If the water quality turns black and there is a high concentration of foam, it is necessary to spray an appropriate bactericide, increase aeration, raise the recirculation rate, and increase sludge discharge; recovery should be possible within a week.
