Which one is more durable and less likely to leak? It’s not a problem if it can’t be sealed tightly; what’s concerning is leakage from the valve body itself. Behind the water meters, there used to be gate valves for each household. I want to install another one indoors. It seems that ball valves are more popular these days; should small-diameter gate valves be replaced by ball valves?
Assuming that all masses meet the standards, gate valves are more durable than ball valves, as gate valves have a mechanism for compensating for seal wear, whereas ball valves do not.
No matter how you compare them, ball valves are more durable than gate valves; gate valves are not durable to begin with.
Compared to gate valves, small household ball valves achieve a tighter seal because their sealing surfaces are soft; thus they can shut off more tightly than gate valves. When wear or leakage occurs in the spherical surface inside a ball valve, the internal seal can usually be adjusted. Therefore, I think ball valves are more durable and provide a tighter seal. However, for heating valves that are exposed to high temperatures, gate valves with hard sealing surfaces are more commonly used. I personally don’t prefer using gate valves at home as they can leak due to worn packing

It depends on the pipe diameter; those used for household connections are usually smaller, and ball valves are sufficient for them
