When I was a child and about to go to school, my mother would always remind me: look left and right before crossing the road, and be sure to pay attention to safety! Whenever I was driving, relatives and friends around me would also remind me to drive slowly, as safety is of utmost importance! Safety is a word that is easy to say, yet it carries great significance; it has been echoing in our ears ever since we became aware of things, having been repeated thousands and tens of thousands of times. Today, “safety first, prevention first” is the motto that those of us working in safety supervision often repeat. 　　I remember that in 2011, I was transferred from my school to the Work Safety Supervision Bureau. My colleagues were envious and said, \"You’re in for a treat now – administrative work is easy, and the salary is high; what a great job!\" To be honest, it’s been over 4 years since I started working in safety supervision, and I haven’t found this job to be easy in the slightest. On the contrary, I’ve experienced how difficult and demanding it is, with irregular schedules and great responsibilities. I once read a passage that said: “Safety inspectors have three fears: first, they are afraid of explosions around them; second, they are afraid of calls coming in the middle of the night; third, they are afraid of hearing alarm sounds.” ”Being a safety supervisor, I really understand it firsthand. When holidays arrive, a time when one should be with family and friends, we, as safety officers, do not have time to be with our own families. When an accident occurs, we must be at the scene immediately, without any delay. When we witness the scenes of families destroyed by accidents, our hearts ache and feel painful. Now, whenever I hear the word \"accident,\" I feel scared. My first reaction is to wonder where the accident happened and whether there were any casualties. \"We in safety supervision tend to overreact to potential safety hazards; we also tend to make a fuss over violations of regulations!\" This is how experts in the field of safety supervision express, in their simplest terms, the qualities that one should possess as a safety supervisor. 　　Over the past four years, I have come to deeply understand the great responsibility associated with work in safety supervision. Safety inspectors are engaged in work that is related to the safety of people’s lives and property, to the people-centered approach to governance, to social stability and harmony, and to the governing capacity of our party – it certainly cannot be easy! Life is measured in distance; life and death are just one step apart. Life is also measured in time; life and death occur in the blink of an eye. Natural disasters are inevitable, but man-made disasters can definitely be prevented. The extremely serious \"8·12\" explosion that occurred at a hazardous materials warehouse in Binhai New Area, Tianjin, shows from the information on accountability made public online that the relevant authorities failed to take responsibility for ensuring safe production; lax law enforcement, inadequate supervision, and a lack of seriousness in their approach were among the factors that led to this tragedy. It was because of those seemingly simple three words, “irresponsible,” that 165 innocent lives were lost. 　　Having worked in safety supervision for many years, I have come to realize that those in this field must act as guardians of safe production; they must also be enforcers of safety regulations, adhering to laws and rules, strictly investigating illegal activities, addressing potential hazards, and preventing accidents. As a safety supervisor, one must be able to endure poverty and resist temptations, possess a spirit of dedication, and fight against violations of regulations. **There is an increasing emphasis on safety work, and the tasks associated with safety supervision are also becoming more demanding. We have no choice but to do our duties properly; caring for lives and paying attention to safety remain the eternal themes in the work and life of those engaged in safety supervision. Since I have chosen this field, I must fulfill my responsibilities as a safety supervisor and live without regret. After all, we are safety inspectors!
