Jiangxi Jinhui Company was the first in China to develop core technology that enables the complete utilization of tantalum and niobium ore waste. December 31, 2015 – Source: Yichun Daily. By utilizing this independently developed core technology, for every ton of tantalum and niobium ore waste processed, 1 ton of industrial materials such as tantalum and niobium powder, lithium feldspar powder, lithium mica powder, and potassium-sodium feldspar sand is produced. On December 29, reporters visited Jiangxi Jinhui Renewable Resources Co., Ltd., which was established in Xinfang Town, Yuanzhou District in 2009. There, piles of tantalum and niobium ore waste were processed through automated production lines, being fully utilized without any pollution generated, thus turning waste into treasure. This year, Jinhui Company has processed 380,000 tons of tantalum and niobium ore waste, generating output worth over 90 million yuan and achieving significant economic and social benefits. It has taken the lead in China in pursuing a green circular development path for the comprehensive utilization of tantalum and niobium ore waste. The Yichun Tantalum-Niobium Mine, located in Xinfang Town, is China’s largest tantalum-niobium mining and processing enterprise as well as a production base for tantalum-niobium-lithium raw materials. After mining, processing, and tailing treatment, a large amount of mine waste remains. These mine tailings contain low-grade tantalum, niobium, and lithium resources, but due to their large footprint and high pollution potential, they are often transported to surrounding areas for disposal. Jinhui Company, which is dedicated to developing products such as potassium-sodium feldspar sand from mine waste rock, realized keenly that separating renewable resources from tantalum and niobium ore waste rock would bring significant economic and social benefits. Since 2009, Jinhui Company has engaged in strategic cooperation with institutions such as Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, Central South University, and Hubei Xinying Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., to carry out research and development on the comprehensive utilization of tantalum and niobium ore waste. Through years of effort, the company has overcome various technical challenges related to the complex properties of tantalum and niobium ore waste, its tendency to become slurry-like, poor separation efficiency, and low sorting efficiency. It has mastered the core processing technologies of \"sequential removal of impurities using weak magnetic, medium magnetic, and strong magnetic fields – separation of tantalum and niobium through gravity and magnetic methods – flotation for the separation of lithium mica and lithium feldspar.\" The company has also improved and developed new production equipment such as rod-media boxes and high-frequency vibration inclined tube thickeners, and has obtained 3 invention patents and 7 utility model patents. In August this year, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology organized well-known domestic experts, including Wang Wenli, the full-time vice president of the China Non-metallic Mineral Industry Association, to conduct an evaluation of Jinhui Company’s project on \"Key Technologies and Applications for the Efficient Comprehensive Utilization of Tantalum and Niobium Ore Waste.\" The evaluation concluded that this project is \"a first in China, with results at the international leading level.\" After overcoming technical challenges in the processing process and upgrading as well as developing production equipment, Jin Hui Company’s production line for the comprehensive utilization of tantalum and niobium ore waste was officially put into operation last April. The company’s products, such as tantalum and niobium powder, lithium mica powder, lithium feldspar powder, and potassium-sodium feldspar sand, are all important industrial raw materials that are widely used in industries such as military manufacturing, glass production, lithium-ion batteries, and ceramics. At present, the company’s products are in high demand and not enough to meet it. To achieve clean production, Jinhui Company has established a comprehensive wastewater treatment system that is utilized throughout the entire production process, enabling the recycling of water used in production within the facility. With the tantalum and niobium ore waste having been fully utilized, Jinhui Company has truly achieved zero wastewater discharge and zero pollution in its production processes.
