Ball valves show a tendency to replace plug valves, but not all plug valves can be replaced by ball valves. How is the grease injection function of a plug valve achieved?
Compared to ball valves, plug valves are much cheaper; Compared to plug valves, ball valves are much more difficult to manufacture, but they also yield higher profits. The manufacturing threshold for plug valves is relatively low… Compared to ball valves, their profit margins used to be fairly high, but after years of market testing, their level of acceptance in the market is likely to decline. For plug valves, what I knew earlier was that pressing down on them improved the sealing performance, while lifting them increased the flexibility in opening and closing the valve. I’ve used some very good ones in the past, but later on there were many poorly made versions with lower-quality materials ;
Plug valves also have a certain market, such as in highly corrosive process streams. I have worked on acetic acid plants; a reaction temperature of 230 degrees is essentially designed for plug valves, and such valves can cost tens of millions of dollars each. If ball valves are used instead, I really have no idea how many times the investment would increase (due to titanium, Hastelloy, and zirconium materials).
