As the title suggests, does the sealant in the sealant tank of a mechanical seal serve a lubricating purpose? I only know that it has a sealing function, separating the medium from the outside. I would like to ask everyone for advice.
Sealing fluids are generally used for secondary sealing, serving the functions of cooling, sealing, and flushing. When the medium leaks, it is discharged into a sealed tank and then to the flare, thus avoiding environmental contamination. By lubrication, do you mean the lubrication of bearings? If the sealing fluid does not reach the bearings, it certainly has no lubricating effect on them.
It’s not about lubricating the bearings; then does it have any lubricating effect on the contact surfaces of the rotating and stationary rings in a mechanical seal?
