Our company is currently using Baxter’s BT7000 as its data acquisition system, with Baxter’s XM series instruments for the hardware as well. However, due to issues with 485 signal transmission, the system is essentially non-functional. We now want to replace the entire data acquisition system and are wondering if there are any better solutions available. (The key issue is that I don’t want to use 485 for long-distance transmission; I’m considering using a PLC plus a network module, but given the wide distribution of the measurement points, the cost might be a bit too high.) Or what about using wireless transmission instead of 485? I would appreciate advice from those with experience in this area; successful cases would be even better. Thank you
For network transmission, fiber optics are necessary. I’m asking whether there are any better methods or better hardware options that are cheaper than PLCs and offer better performance

I have seen wireless communication, but it doesn’t collect very much data.
Wireless instruments are not recommended. Our company has used Emerson’s wireless instruments and gateways, and the biggest drawback is their slow response time, as well as the significant impact that obstacles have on the signal. If the original poster has no particular requirements regarding response time, they can give it a try.

An alternative option is available: since the control scheme relies on 485 transmission and there are many measurement points, an alternative solution is the ET200S remote IO unit, which does not have a CPU; this unit can then be connected to the control PLC via a Profinet network. The transmission distance meets the required standards. If security is a concern, a ring network configuration can be used; otherwise, other connection methods can be employed. Attention should be paid to the number of points that can be connected and to the transmission rate. delta V works too; the idea is the same
