Dear seniors, does anyone know the techniques for recovering copper from etching solution wastewater that contains copper, as well as from sludge? Thank you!
The copper recovery technology from spent etching solutions is quite mature; for alkaline etching solutions, extraction-electrodeposition is generally used, while for acidic etching solutions, diaphragm electrolysis is employed. Both of these processes enable the reuse of waste liquids, and feedback from actual industry operations is very positive.

The copper content in waste etching solutions for circuit boards is generally between 130–150 g/l. It is not feasible to use resins for adsorbing this solution, as the high copper content causes the resins to become saturated very quickly. Resin adsorption is generally used for low-concentration copper-containing wash water; after concentration through resin adsorption, it is then subjected to electrolysis. It is difficult to determine clear standards for high or low electrolysis costs, as the original components are not damaged during electrolysis, allowing the solution obtained after electrolysis to be reused. Thus, a significant amount of cost associated with potions is saved. During electrolysis, the costs involve only labor and electrolysis itself; of course, the equipment required is expensive, and an evaluation must be made based on the specific circumstances of the project.
The answer above is correct; we work with resins and have handled copper removal processes in the etching solution industry on many occasions. What we usually do is carry out concentration enhancement using low concentrations – the copper content in such solutions is typically between 1 g/l and 3 g/l. At higher concentrations, the economic efficiency of using resins decreases; one cubic meter of resin can absorb approximately 30 kilograms of copper, which corresponds to 30 g/l. This represents the upper limit for copper concentration that can be achieved using resins. For solutions with high concentrations, electrolytic treatment is considered as an alternative method.

A small amount of chlorine gas is generated during diaphragm electrolysis; therefore, a ventilation system is necessary, along with absorption towers for handling this gas. We are a manufacturer of equipment for recycling waste etching solutions and recovering copper from such solutions. We welcome further discussions on this topic.
Is what is adsorbed by the resin pure copper? Does the resin also have an adsorptive effect on other metals? What is the general price of resins? Thank you
