Is there anyone who works in LNG plants doing analytical testing? I have a question regarding foam generation tests using MDEA-based amines – specifically, the height of the foam and foam suppression. Has anyone conducted such tests? The standards SY/T6538 can be downloaded from the internet, but the information provided is quite brief; it doesn’t explain where to obtain the equipment needed for these tests. . . Has anyone done this experiment? Thank you
The amine solution foaming experiment is actually quite simple to carry out; I have done it before. Use a measuring cylinder to collect the amine solution from the system, connect a hose to the process gas, insert it into the amine solution, and blow for ten minutes – then visually assess the degree of foaming

1. Test apparatus The test apparatus is shown in Figure 1. A stoppered volumetric flask was placed in a constant temperature bath, and a thin metal tube equipped with a gas diffusion head was inserted into the bottom of the flask; its upper open end was connected to a gas pump. In this experiment, the gas flow rate supplied by the gas pump was kept constant at 90 L/H. The temperature of the constant-temperature bath is set at 60°C. 2. Test Methods 2.1 Preparation of the foaming solution: Take the desulfurization agent sample in use directly from the device, or prepare a fresh agent into a solution at the operating concentration. 2.2 Foaming test method: Take 500 ml of the foaming solution and place it in a graduated cylinder with a stopper; then put it in a constant temperature bath and heat it to 60°C. Start the gas pump (a gas cylinder or similar can also be used), and introduce gas into the foaming solution through the gas diffusion head. Once the foam layer stabilizes, record its volume ; Then stop the aeration, and record the time it takes for the foam to disappear completely. In the analysis, instruments can be sourced locally; as long as the standards are consistent, it is possible to determine the trend in foam formation of the amine solution.
