In HG T20570-1995, ‘3.0.1.3 When the maximum operating temperature of the material in the storage tank (and tank car) is greater than or equal to the flash point of that material, a flame arrester shall be installed on its direct venting pipeline (including the venting pipeline equipped with a breather valve).’ The maximum operating temperature must take into account factors such as changes in ambient temperature, sunlight exposure, and uncontrolled heating elements. ” The textual requirements specify that flame arresters are necessary for storage tanks (such as transfer tanks, high-level metering tanks, buffer tanks, etc., but not heat exchangers, reactors, separation vessels, etc.) in situations where the operating temperature is above the flash point. I think it might be easier to understand it this way: heat exchangers, continuous reactors, and separation vessels are essentially just channels for the material; transfer equipment is used to enable the normal flow of material in and out, so there is no need to install vent pipes. And if storage tanks lack vent pipes or vents, it is not possible for materials to enter and exit properly. For example, if the vent is blocked, the material inside the storage tank may cause it to collapse. Most reactors operating in batch mode are also equipped with vent pipes. Consider installing a flame arrester only if there is a vent. And if there are no vent pipes at all, then it’s even impossible to install a flame arrester on them.
A flame arrester should be installed for combustible gas venting.
