Experts, how to determine the metal cross-sectional area for A3 with perforated reinforcement?
A3 is the cross-sectional area of the weld metal, calculated based on the actual weld dimensions. Please study carefully Figure 6-2 on page 157 of GB150.3-2011...
The cylinder diameter is 10 mm, the weld leg height is 6 mm, and the bevel angle is 45 degrees; is 10 x 6 = 60?
It should be 6x6=36 (the triangular weld legs on both sides form a square).
It should be 10x6; 10 thick plate cylinders with 45-degree grooves, and the weld leg would be 10 mm in length and 6 mm in height
If the height of the weld corner is 6 mm, then A3 = 2X6X6/2 = 36 mm2. The first 2 in the formula represents the area of two triangles, while 6X6/2 represents the area of one triangle. The groove of the cylinder is not included in the weld angle area. Take a look at what is stated in 150.3 P157.
This post was last edited by zhangjuhua on 2016-10-21 at 18:49. Welds that fill the groove are not included; the welds that fill the opened groove should belong to the cylinder and the nozzle. Since the vertical sides of the weld are generally taken as the thinner of the two, A3 represents the area of an isosceles right triangle without considering the groove
In practical operations, A3 is often not taken into consideration; A1 and A2 account for the majority. The impact of A3 is almost negligible.
