On January 15, the first phase of the technical upgrade project for the 100,000 tons per year methanol-to-gasoline production facility at Shaanxi Baonit Group was put into operation. The initial trial run was successful, and the plant began to operate at full capacity, producing light gasoline, heavy aromatics, and LPG. This project utilizes a one-step methanol-to-gasoline conversion process using a fixed-bed adiabatic reactor, which was jointly developed by the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Saiding Engineering Company, and Yunnan Coal Chemical Industry Group. The catalyst used in this process was independently developed and produced by the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry. This project was a key project under the assessment in Shaanxi Province in 2015; its products are lead-free, sulfur-free, have low benzene content, high octane rating, and excellent quality ； The production process is energy- and environment-friendly, with wastewater being recycled, making it an environmentally sustainable project. The completion and operation of this project are of great significance for promoting the restructuring and upgrading of the methanol industry, improving the ecological environment, and driving regional economic development.

The current problem is the production of gasoline from methanol; the octane rating of this gasoline is not high, and moreover, gasoline prices are low while taxes are high, so it’s not profitable at all. It’s hard to say right now whether the technology is mature or not, isn’t it?
