Dear sea friends: In our company, there is a processing procedure that involves dropping large packages. Due to the caking of the materials, an electric hoist is used to lift these 1T heavy packages to a height of about 4 meters; afterwards, the operator cuts the rope, causing the package to fall freely to the ground. This process is repeated until the clumps break apart. What are the risks associated with this method? Is there a better way?
What kind of material is it? It’s better to use an excavator and break it apart with a shovel. We’ve encountered this situation before; since there’s an excavator in the factory, we do it that way, and it’s very efficient.
They are all finished chemical raw materials, packaged in large bags; clumping is a serious problem. The main reason is that there are no dump trucks in the factory, so those large bags have to be moved by hand every day. Yesterday, an electric hoist was used to move one of those bags; after the rope broke, the hoist rebounded violently and almost came off its tracks – it was very dangerous
So what materials should we look at? Table salt, white sugar – they can be dropped without any problem. Several tons worth—would you like to give it a try and drop it?
This chemical raw material is non-flammable, and it poses no problems even when impacted; The problem is that an object weighing nearly a ton, when falling freely, creates dents in the ground; moreover, people keep walking around that area. Apart from setting up a simple temporary barrier to create a separation, I don’t know what other solutions might exist
