The adsorption capacity of molecular sieves decreases mainly because, over time, some of them break down, which leads to a reduction in their adsorption capacity. Nowadays, molecular sieves are usually designed with two layers: the alumina layer at the bottom is used for water absorption, while the molecular sieve layer on top is used for adsorbing other substances; this approach helps to extend the service life of the molecular sieves. For the first two questions, I think it is mainly determined by the volume of air entering the tower. :)
Regarding the amount of molecular sieve to be used, considerations are mainly given to the air flow rate, its properties (relative humidity of 100%, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon content), as well as the desired adsorption time (if this time is too long, it poses problems in terms of the manufacturing of the adsorber and the space required). As for the energy consumption required for regeneration, it depends on the amount of adsorption capacity of the molecular sieve. The main factors that can lead to a decline in the performance of molecular sieves include: 1) poisoning of the molecular sieve, as well as the presence of oil in the air. 2.
