I would like to ask fellow sailors: In a coal chemical plant producing 300,000 tons per year of methanol, is the pump used for handling the lean liquid from the low-temperature methanol washing process driven by a hydraulic turbine? The mechanical seals of the methanol-poor pump used in low-temperature methanol washing require very high standards; the purity of the methanol is also a critical factor. Generally, a pressure difference interlock is installed on the pump inlet filter – if the pressure difference exceeds the set limit, an alarm is triggered and the pump shuts down automatically. Especially during the initial startup phase, in an effort to meet deadlines, purging and water flushing may not be carried out thoroughly, resulting in frequent pump shutdowns and restarts. This is also one of the reasons why hydraulic turbine-assisted drive systems are less commonly used. Moreover, many decarburization lean liquid pumps that use propylene carbonate as a fluid are driven by hydraulic turbines.
Few low-temperature methanol washing lean liquid pumps make use of turbine-assisted power generation; many companies find it too troublesome and prefer not to use turbines, so there are hardly any that operate well in this way. If recovery is desired, options such as turbine power generation can be considered. I wonder whether the poster is considering a new project or already has a facility in operation? One of the methanol washing pumps used for removing impurities from 180,000 tons of methanol at Linquan Zhongneng Chemical is equipped with a hydraulic turbine; it seems to be from Dalian Shenlan. This configuration carries quite high risks
How did it get so big? I’m not very familiar with this area. Could you explain it?
I saw it once at the Zhongneng Chemical plant; it was designed that way from the start. 3.8MPa twin-shaft motor: insufficient energy at the turbine end, therefore reverse power transmission is not possible. That’s about it, so much O(∩_∩)O haha~
