Why is there no discussion on VCM produced by the ethylene method in the PVC AC version? There are now many VCM plants using the ethylene process in China, and there must be many problems as well; why have I never seen any discussions on this topic? It would be best to set up a separate forum dedicated to the informal discussion of VCM produced by the ethylene method
In PVC plants that use the ethylene process, part of the monomer is imported; there are only a few manufacturers that have both PVC and VCM production facilities using the ethylene process. With the market in such a poor state these days, it’s even harder for the ethylene method to be profitable. Many people who work on these devices are busy; they don’t have much time to visit forums.
With falling oil prices, the cost of production using the ethylene method should be lower than that of the calcium carbide method – so why isn’t it profitable?
Ethylene should be profitable at the moment; whether the ethylene used for PVC follows the trend of oil prices can be seen by looking at the prices of ethylene and oil.

In fact, everyone knows about the ethylene oxychlorination process; the problem is that established ethylene producers like Qilu Petrochemical fail to engage in any interactions.
There are now many companies that use the ethylene method: Shanghai Chlor-Alkali, Tianjin Dagu Chemical, Tancheng Yangmei Hengtong, Qilu Petrochemical, Qingdao Haijing Chemical, Jinniu Chemical (Canghua), Qinghai Salt Lake Magnesium Industry, Ningbo Hanwha, and many others I’m not aware of. I think it would be good for everyone to have a place where they can exchange technical information; although the patent holders may vary, the key equipment and processes should be similar.
Shanghai Chlor-Alkali has basically stopped producing SPVC and now only manufactures specialty resins； The operation time of Tancheng Yangmei Hengtong has been less than half a year ； Qilu Petrochemical operates only 1 set of facilities ； Qingdao Haijing Chemical has not started operations yet after its relocation ； Jinniu Chemical (Canghua) seems to have been out of production for some time now ； The ethylene process for magnesium production in Qinghai’s salt lakes likely has not yet been put into operation. What’s left are foreign companies like Ningbo Hanhua!
