Paragraph 6.4.3 of the \"Code for Welding Techniques in Thermal Power Plants\" stipulates that welds whose material has been confirmed to be inconsistent through spectral analysis should be deemed defective welds. What specifications must the material of the welds meet? Qualitative analysis or quantitative analysis? If the design does not specify, does it mean compliance with the manufacturing standards of the base material?
Both qualitative and quantitative analysis are required; however, quantitative spectroscopic analysis involves certain errors, and the weld quality should fall within the range of the base material’s properties
I think that in addition to looking at the material composition, one should also consider its microstructural composition; the elemental composition of the welding material can be higher than that of the base material.
