I understand that you have been assigned a mechanical engineering project. When working at a design institute or engineering company, it is necessary to first prepare the PID, LINE LIST, and EQUIPMENT LIST. After that, hydraulic and pressure drop calculations are carried out, and requirements are then submitted to other departments (for pipelines: PID and LINE LIST; for equipment: equipment data sheets)； Automatic control: Instrument data sheet and control interlock conditions table ； Electrical: Power load and interlocking conditions for motors, etc ； Telecommunications: conditions such as emergency calls ； HVAC: ventilation area, frequency, etc ； Water supply and drainage: water supply and drainage volume, drainage area ； Environmental protection analysis: sampling points, etc. If larger-scale processes are involved, requirements must also be submitted to the architecture and structural engineering teams. The process engineering field is the key discipline – it’s demanding, but also the most valuable one. Before preparing the PID, pipeline list, and equipment list, it is necessary to draw the PID diagram (unless there is already a process package, in which case only minor modifications are required). As for the information in the pipeline list such as operating design temperature and pressure, inspection levels, and pipe diameter, how is this information determined? For the equipment list, if the equipment has already been selected, then how is that decision made? What data is used for making such choices, and where does this data come from?

If there is no process package, it must be created first! Then do as I said above! The design pressure is determined based on the process system; please refer to the relevant specifications! The pipe diameter is determined by flow rate and velocity, while the type of equipment is determined by the process requirements!

There is also a division of labor within the process engineering field; different people may be responsible for different aspects. Some handle the major, important tasks, while others focus on addressing minor details
