When the frequency of the plunger pump increases, there are occasionally two consecutive thudding sounds at the pump head; these sounds are likely caused by the piston being compressed again before the valve discs have time to move and return to their closed position due to the spring force. After the pump’s frequency was reduced, the sound of the pump was normal; no such noise was heard. Is it normal for this kind of situation to occur at high frequencies?
Check valves are installed at both the inlet and outlet of the plunger pump; when the frequency is high, the number of reciprocations of the plunger increases, and thus the number of times the check valves open and close also increases. The sound is the impact noise caused by the opening and closing of the check valve.

The abnormal noise generated by a piston pump when the motor frequency is increased is caused by an increase in the switching frequency of the pump’s valve components; in some cases, certain specially shaped valves have poor guidance and may get stuck, resulting in noise under the effect of outlet pressure. This situation usually occurs with valve components that are specially shaped and equipped with guidance systems – cone valves and ball valves do not experience this issue. Another possibility is that there are minor damage on the sealing surfaces of certain valves, which can cause leakage during rapid opening and closing; the resulting sound is typically a hissing noise. There is no such thing as noise occurring when the frequency increases; the valve makes noise even at a lower frequency – it’s just a matter of whether the frequency is high or low.
The sound of the check valve opening and closing is always there; what I’m referring to is that sequence of two quick sounds back to back. I’m wondering if this is normal
The normal sound produced by the valve flap’s opening and closing action has a frequency that is either slow or fast; this is not a problem. I would like to ask whether it’s normal for, at high frequencies, there to be occasional two quick sounds of opening and closing – very rapid sounds – which then return to normal once the frequency decreases. Is such occasional noise at high frequencies normal? Is it possible that there is air in the compression chamber?

Over time, this valve will become unusable; it’s a good idea to check it when there’s a chance.
