Becoming a PM

What was your first impression of this title? Yes. It represents my goal in my career as a chemical engineer. I want to become a PM (project manager), but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy my technical work. On the contrary, I want to keep improving myself. I am familiar with technical aspects; I’ve worked on many projects in which I served as both a technical engineer and a project leader who also had to handle commercial and managerial tasks. So this year (2016), I started working on my plan to become a PM. The first step is to undergo PMP training. I will keep updating you on my progress here, and I hope you can offer me your encouragement. Thank you!
Go for it. An ideal project manager has everything under control: plans, materials, manpower, progress, finances, human resources...

Try this, my friend: Looking at the title “PM”, what’s your first reaction? For me, it is my goal to become a professional PM, even though I am pursuing a career in chemical engineering. This doesn’t mean that I don’t like engineering jobs; I believe that PM roles are part of the engineering field. In the past, I have focused more on project design work, with an emphasis on technical aspects rather than PM responsibilities. To be a good engineering leader, I think it’s important to develop skills in marketing, management, as well as engineering design. At the beginning of 2016, I started attending PM training courses offered by a training agency, and I hope to receive encouragement from all of you here. Thank you to all of you.

Returning to this topic after 9 years! I obtained my PMP certification in 2017 and became a project manager in 2019, leading projects at BYC, BASF, Huayi, and other chemical manufacturing sites. Later, I was promoted to Team Manager, responsible for both people management and business operations. Thank you for your support throughout this journey. Chase your dreams – you can achieve them!
