Boiling range (including the initial boiling point) and saturated vapor pressure are indicators for assessing the evaporation properties of gasoline. The volatility of gasoline should be appropriate. Good volatility, allowing the engine to start easily, accelerate smoothly, and operate properly ; Conversely, incomplete vaporization of gasoline can lead to difficulty in starting the engine, unstable operation, incomplete combustion, increased fuel consumption, and even greater wear on the engine’s moving parts. However, it should be noted that excessive gasoline volatility can easily cause air blockages in the fuel lines, as well as engine failures. Generally, there are no strict specific requirements for the initial boiling point of gasoline; the initial boiling point is restricted to prevent gas blockages. Pay special attention to the 10% distillation temperature; it indicates the amount of light fractions present in the gasoline, and this is directly related to the ease with which a cold engine can start in low-temperature conditions, as well as to any resistance to combustion that may occur in high-temperature conditions. (At an atmospheric temperature of 5°C, operation can begin when the 10% distillation temperature is 107°C.) The saturated vapor pressure is also used to determine the degree of tendency for gasoline to experience vapor lock.
