Author/Source: Date: 2016-03-07 Clicks: 34 On March 1, a symposium on coal-to-gas projects was held in Shahe City, Hebei Province. To effectively promote the structural adjustment of the flat glass industry and make every effort to advance the industrial transformation and upgrading across the province, the provincial authorities have required the Shahe Glass Industry Base to carry out pilot projects for centralized clean coal gas production in the glass industry. These projects aim to establish unified enterprises for clean coal gas production, enabling centralized gas generation and supply, thereby reducing production costs for enterprises and minimizing pollutant emissions. In response to this, our city has attached great importance to it and assigned specialists to conduct in-depth research and evaluation on the implementation of pilot demonstration projects for centralized clean coal gas production in the glass industry. It was decided that Taiyuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. would serve as the leading enterprise, while Great Wall Glass Co., Ltd. would be the main entity responsible for implementation. Together with institutions such as the China National Coal Research Institute and Shanghai University of Science and Technology, which possess research capabilities and experience in areas like coal gasification and clean coal conversion, these entities will work together to establish projects in our city for the hierarchical utilization of clean gasification processes to produce fuel gas. Currently, this project has been submitted under the leadership of the China Coal Research Institute and is included in the **High-Tech Research and Development Program (863 Program). The project has a production capacity of 5,000–6,000 tons of coal per day, and it utilizes process technologies such as fixed-bed pressurized slag gasification with 6 units in operation and 1 as backup, low-temperature methanol washing for gas purification, ultra-efficient Claus sulfur recovery, methane conversion, and gas-water separation. The project purifies and recovers the complex harmful impurities in gas, resulting in no emissions of its own. Upon completion of the project, the coal consumption will be within 2 million tons per year, and it will produce 2 billion cubic meters of high-calorific-value fuel gas with a calorific value of 5500 Kcal/Nm3 per year, thereby meeting the fuel gas needs of the city’s glass industry in an efficient manner. At the seminar, Chang Qinghai, General Manager of Beijing Dayue Consulting Co., Ltd., gave an introduction to the practical aspects of PPP project implementation as well as the progress and existing issues related to the coal-to-gas project in Shahe City. He stated that relevant procedures would be further improved, and there was a determination and confidence to accelerate the project construction so that it could begin operations in Shahe at an early date.
