What is the reason for the slow rise in the main cooling liquid level inside the air separation cold box? Our plant has two air separation towers: the tower in the east releases approximately 800 mm of main cooling liquid per shift (in the small tank), while the tower in the west releases about 400 mm per shift (in the small tank). We suspect that there may be a leak or freezing blockage in the heat exchanger inside the Sita cryogenic tank. Could everyone please help analyze the reasons? What should be done since it’s not possible to stop operations in the short term? Thank you!

In my personal opinion, I believe that two air separation units with the same configuration may not necessarily have identical operating conditions or production capacities. There are many reasons for the low liquid output from the main cooler, including material balance and heat balance factors, as well as whether the unit is operating in an oxygen-based mode or a nitrogen-based mode.
Leakage can be ruled out by checking whether there is noticeable frosting or even freezing around the cold box; If there is a blockage, check whether the resistance of the plate type has changed
