Is it possible to switch from gas desulfurization to flue gas desulfurization?

As the title suggests, one of my close friends used to work in a coking plant of an iron and steel company, where he was responsible for desulfurizing coke oven gas. Now that the coking industry is in a downturn, he wants to change careers and move into the field of flue gas desulfurization. He’s noticed that there are many companies hiring people for work related to flue gas desulfurization design, so he came to me and asked if I think it’s possible for him to do this I don’t really understand flue gas desulfurization either – will his such spectacular turnaround work? Isn’t the principle the same? Can he handle it? I hope the experts in flue gas desulfurization can offer some guidance!
