In the exercises, there are many standard specifications, such as the fire separation requirements outlined in petrochemical regulations and building codes; many of these are numerical values. Do I need to remember all of them? There seem to be so many numbers
I guess making a few more mistakes during the design process will help it stick in memory.
You can bring books for professional exams; just remember where the exam content is located.

This is something tested only in domestic exams. Abroad, for questions like these, the examiners will allow you to refer to the standards; it’s possible to look up those standards, and there’s no need to memorize everything by heart. If fire separation distances are basic common sense requirements in design that must be known, then the volume of fire dikes can be looked up, or one can use formulas to calculate it, in which case it’s a different matter
Probably not many people deliberately memorize that stuff; no matter how good their memory is, mistakes are inevitable over time. Since it’s an open-book exam, it’s much more reliable to be able to look things up in the book! It is recommended to read the key regulations carefully twice, including the explanatory notes. If time permits, memorize the table of contents (including the sub-tables), so that you can find the relevant information in the regulations in a very short time if it appears in the exam
It’s no problem to find the specifications; what’s concerning is if they don’t provide them. With all that data around, it will be really hard to keep track of everything
