Our chemical plant is equipped with 5 boiler feed water pumps; the GD150-80 model uses an old-style packing seal, and the manufacturer’s drawings show that 3 packing rings are installed inside the packing box, one on each side of the packing ring. Using butter-type packing gave good results, but its lifespan was only one week; graphite packing and high-water-based packing both yielded poor performance. It is manifested as better sealing on the inlet side, with hot water inside the pump on the outlet side flowing back into the cooling water (the pressure of the cooling water is about 2 kgf/cm2). Seeking help: 1. Is there an issue with the choice of filler? 2. Are there any issues with the balance pipes or balance seals on the inlet and outlet sides of the pump? 3. Which master can help me?
You can try Gore Teflon packing; it’s quite good, though it’s more expensive
It can be modified into a mechanical seal. Mechanical seals are now used quite well.
Thank you all. There are currently two obstacles to replacing the mechanical seal. 1. The original design for the cooling water was to use ordinary circulating water, with a water pressure of 0.3 MPa; the water quality was not suitable. 2. The process system is in operation, and the original manufacturer has stated that the pump needs to be returned to the factory in order to complete the repair.
Carbon fiber can be used, making it suitable for high-temperature conditions.
