What is the purpose of establishing an oxygen flow rate before starting up a GE gasifier?
Can’t we feed it directly without introducing oxygen?
The feeding process in the gasifier is controlled by a fixed program; in fact, once the preliminary preparations are complete, all that’s needed is for the control room operator to press the feeding button. However, certain conditions must be met first: establishing a slurry circulation system, setting the oxygen flow rate, and ensuring proper water circulation, among other things.
With direct feeding, it is not possible to ensure the amount of oxygen entering the furnace, which may lead to excess oxygen.
At Shell, the oxygen control valve has a preset opening value during material feeding； For GE, it’s to first establish the oxygen flow rate; the approach is actually the same
