Our factory uses plate and frame filters; after the material is fed in, it is washed. After each unloading, there is always residual material left in the feeding channel. Sometimes this amount is significant – up to a dozen filter plates’ worth of material. This residue causes the quality parameters to exceed acceptable levels, resulting in the batch of material being deemed unsuitable. What can be done to solve this problem? We consulted the manufacturer, but they were also unable to provide any solution. I would appreciate it if the experts could give me some advice. Thank you.
Could you provide more details on the specific processes? Things such as the filtration method, feed rate, feed pressure, solid-liquid ratio, pressure at which feeding stops, pH of the suspension, solid compression ratio, control parameters, etc. Also, information on the control methods, washing methods, wash water flow rate, pressure, and pH – the more specific the details, the easier it will be to analyze
Is it better to use a diaphragm now?
I agree with you; one advantage of the diaphragm is that it allows for compression. I still haven’t understood exactly which part the author is referring to as the feed channel.
The diaphragm filter press I have seen feeds material from the middle of the plate, and after feeding, the material pipe is washed with water.
It depends on which type of feed press is suitable for the properties of your material; it has nothing to do with whether it is a diaphragm press or not!

It’s possible that the high pressure from the feed pump and the long filtering time cause blockage at the feed inlet; reducing the pressure slightly and shortening the feeding time, along with using back-pressure washing, should help resolve the issue.
