I would like to ask whether dual level indicators are necessary for hazardous liquid storage tanks? Such as an on-site level gauge, a remote transmission level gauge. Some time ago, experts who came for an inspection raised this issue, but I couldn’t find any relevant regulatory requirements. Could everyone please let me know about this standard? Thank you.
SHT3007-2014 Code for Design of Tank Areas in Petrochemical Storage and Transportation Systems 6.3.2 For pressure tanks, liquid level measurement shall be equipped with one set of remote transmission instruments and one set of local indication instruments; glass plate level gauges shall not be used as local indication instruments.
Our tanks are at atmospheric pressure – are there any relevant regulatory requirements?

Now, flammable liquid storage tanks must be equipped with high liquid level alarms, so there is one on-site alarm and one for remote monitoring.
Is there any specification that explicitly requires this?
As we mentioned during today’s inspection as well, liquid storage tanks require a dual-level monitoring system; there is no basis for not doing so
Refer to: GB17681-1999 Technical Requirements for Acceptance of Safety Monitoring and Early Warning Systems in Flammable and Explosive Tank Areas, 5.5 Liquid storage tanks must be equipped with level detection instruments, and at least two different types of such instruments shall be installed in each tank.
Liquid storage tanks must be equipped with dual level indicators, primarily for dual protection – so that if one of the level indicators malfunctions, the other can take over temporarily.

It mainly refers to large storage tanks, but these days it is considered unreasonable to require double ones for just any storage tank~~~~
