In a contact oxidation tank, the sludge settling ratio is not used; this parameter is more commonly applied in the activated sludge process. In contact oxidation, attention is mainly paid to the thickness of the membrane and microscopic examination to determine the types and quantities of microorganisms. There are generally three operating modes for contact oxidation: sludge method, membrane method, and combined sludge-membrane method. If it’s the sludge method, you can measure the sludge settling ratio; the other two methods don’t provide much useful information.
