These two types of additives are used in different locations. The activator is used in gasoline refining and is injected before gasoline enters the fixed-bed reactor; it forms a homogeneous system within the oil, which facilitates the removal of higher thiols and isomeric thiols. Another function of this activator is to clean the reactor bed. The antigelling agent, on the other hand, is injected before gasoline leaves the refining unit; it can form chelates with metal ions, thereby preventing these metal ions from catalyzing the oxidative degradation of the oil
