Why is a circulating hydrogen desulfurization system installed in hydrogenation units?
This post was last edited by Rist on 2016-4-16 23:24 to remove hydrogen sulfide from recycled hydrogen. Excessive hydrogen sulfide in the system inhibits desulfurization reactions; removing hydrogen sulfide from the recycled hydrogen increases the desulfurization efficiency of these reactions. It can also increase the purity of circulating hydrogen and raise the hydrogen partial pressure. Reduce the sulfur content of the product. Some hydrogenation units have desulfurization systems, while others do not; it mainly depends on the raw materials being processed.
When the volume concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the circulating hydrogen increased from 0 to 2.8%, the relative desulfurization activity of the catalyst decreased from 100 to 49, showing a significant effect. Adding a circulating hydrogen desulfurization system yields a significant effect compared to not adding it, as the average temperature of the reactor bed decreases.

Cyclic hydrogen desulfurization. Increase hydrogen purity and reduce circulating hydrogen emissions. Some plants that process low-sulfur oil do not use circulating hydrogen for desulfurization.
The circulating hydrogen desulfurization system is primarily used to remove hydrogen sulfide from circulating hydrogen, thereby increasing hydrogen purity and its partial pressure, which facilitates the progress of hydrogenation reactions; it also helps to reduce the emission of waste hydrogen
There is no circulating hydrogen desulfurization tower; the hydrogen sulfide content in the circulating hydrogen is high, and it cannot be discharged externally nor fed into the reactor (due to side reactions)
