There is a joint at the bottom of the liquid dropping plate, one of the fixing components inside the tower; the height of this joint is 65 mm and its length is 1100 mm. It seems that the manufacturer of these tower components used the wrong material. A repair weld was then applied at the bottom of the liquid dropping plate. In my opinion, this should not be allowed, as the thermal deformation at the bottom of the liquid dropping plate prevents proper circulation between the liquid dropping plate and the receiving tray. Additionally, this joint is subject to erosion and corrosion. However, no relevant regulations were found in the applicable standards. I would appreciate everyone’s advice on this matter
Does not affect the distillation column pressure drop； It does not affect the separation efficiency; in my opinion, the liquid dropping plate can be assembled (which affects the appearance, so it is not recommended).
From a mechanical perspective, I’m not familiar with manufacturing processes, and I don’t recommend welding together these components, as welds are prone to corrosion and other welding defects. Moreover, stress deformation occurs during the welding process, and problems will inevitably arise over time, making it not worth the effort.
There is basically no impact on the process, but it may have an effect on the structure!
If the butt weld is a full-penetration weld, there should be no issues from a practical standpoint. A splice width this narrow is really not acceptable.
