"The costs associated with frequent corrosion leaks, shutdowns for leak repairs, and the replacement of mist eliminators are roughly on par with the benefits they bring. I wonder if these problems arise because of the use of structured packing; would these issues not occur if such packing were not used? It seems to have nothing to do with whether regular packing is used or not.
Before making the replacement, it is necessary to consider the height-to-diameter ratio of the tower, the flow velocity, and the specific surface area for absorption; otherwise, the costs will outweigh the benefits
The standards for this comparison are inconsistent; the original randomly piled packing layer suffered from clogging over time, while after replacing it with properly arranged packing, a clean operating condition was achieved. It is best to conduct a comparison after the structured packing has been in use for 3–5 years. If the structured packing becomes clogged, cleaning it can be difficult, and the cost of replacing it entirely is too high.

The defogger for the first suction stage has been replaced; the one for the second suction stage hasn’t been replaced yet. The defogger for the second suction stage is still in use – it’s been over three years since it was installed, and it’s still functioning well. The defogger for the first suction stage has been replaced four times already. It’s located at the outlet of the first suction stage, and the gas there causes severe acid corrosion. If it isn’t replaced, problems might arise, but not as frequently
The regular packing will be in use for almost 3 years; considering various factors, is there any standard for a simple comparison? What standards are you referring to?
All process parameters should be considered together. Maybe there will be fewer problems. Structured packing offers many technical advantages for new systems
The advantages are obvious; process parameters need to be taken into consideration, but the selection of supporting equipment is also an issue
This is compared with the condition after 3 years of using randomly piled filler.
