We have an existing sulfuric acid alkylation unit, and we are planning to go out for some research. We would appreciate it if all colleagues could share what they know about sulfuric acid-based alkylation units, particularly information regarding the location of such units, the process technologies used, and the separation and treatment processes.
Alkylation using sulfuric acid is employed in many large oil refineries. So, what exactly is the original poster not clear about regarding China’s refineries? One can then go to the websites of Sinopec and CNPC to check the location of these refineries.
I mainly want to know whether each company uses the Rumms process or DuPont technology.
These days, the DuPont process is used in most cases; only a small amount use the Rums process. Different design firms have their own advantages and disadvantages. Whether to adopt the alkylation process depends on one’s own conditions and whether they meet the requirements. Relatively speaking, the Rums process requires higher investment, as well as fees for technology transfer, while the DuPont process involves less investment, is more mature and stable, but has higher energy consumption. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
DuPont version D can be used. It’s cheap, and there’s also a Version D reactor
