Due to the suspension of production, our plant’s water treatment system has stopped operating. Over time, algae-like growths appeared on the surface of the water in the biochemical tanks, and there was a very unpleasant odor. How should I deal with the bad smell? Is it necessary to add any chemicals to handle it? The main issue is that water cannot be released; can continuous aeration help?
Something that looks like green hair grows on the surface; this is caused by the presence of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water, which leads to algae growth. Generally, adding sodium hypochlorite can help suppress the growth of algae； The unpleasant odor is caused by a lack of oxygen in the water. The best solution is to prevent anaerobic or localized anaerobic conditions from occurring in the water; intermittent aeration is sufficient for this purpose. Continuous aeration is wasteful and can cause the activated sludge to age due to a lack of nutrients, making it more difficult to restart the process. Additionally, maintaining dissolved oxygen can also suppress the growth of algae.
