Stellite is a type of alloy; why are some valve seats and valve cores welded with Stellite?
Cladding the valve components with STL alloy is done to improve their wear resistance. When the medium in use consists of solid particles with high hardness, or contains such particles, the high hardness of these particles can cause significant wear on the valve components over time. If the wear resistance of these components is not enhanced, internal leakage may occur in the valve within a short period. To ensure the valve’s service life, it is common to coat the valve components with STL alloy or apply tungsten carbide coatings to increase their hardness.
Stellite alloy is a type of cemented carbide; when it is necessary to increase the wear resistance of the valve core, a layer of Stellite alloy is generally welded onto the surface of the valve core.
Cladding with STL alloy is done to enhance the strength of the valve core and seat, improve their wear resistance, and effectively prevent the medium from eroding them.
